Ombudsman’s Message – The value of independent oversight

In this report, we offer our best measure of our work in 2017-2018 –but the biggest stories aren’t confined to the fiscal year. In fact, those with the most impact were many years in the making.” – Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé

The report identifies that the Ontario Ombudsman handled 5 complaints related to the Municipality of Brighton during the reporting period 2017/2018. However, only 1 complaint resulted in an investigation in which the Ombudsman’s office concluded that Mayor Walas initiated a series of telephone calls to selected members of Brighton Council which constituted an illegal closed meeting.
