Ombudsman’s Message – The value of independent oversight
“In this report, we offer our best measure of our work in 2017-2018 –but the biggest stories aren’t confined to the fiscal year. In fact, those with the most impact were many years in the making.” – Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé
The report identifies that the Ontario Ombudsman handled 5 complaints related to the Municipality of Brighton during the reporting period 2017/2018. However, only 1 complaint resulted in an investigation in which the Ombudsman’s office concluded that Mayor Walas initiated a series of telephone calls to selected members of Brighton Council which constituted an illegal closed meeting.
The Ombudsman is an independent officer of the Legislature who investigates complaints from the public about Ontario government services.
